- What was your favourite subject at school?
Can I cheat and say 3 subjects as I can’t pick just one, they were, English, P.E. and History.
- What was your first job?
My first job was as a paper boy 7 days a week every morning and every Wednesday night delivering the local paper.
- Which is your favourite restaurant /hotel?
My favourite city hotel is the Sheraton Grand Hotel & spa Edinburgh, great service and great team and in the countryside, I like a trip to Murrayshall Hotel just outside Perth, it is so peaceful.
- How do you inspire your team
Leading from the front and coaching on the job, never ask anything of the team that you would never be willing to do regardless of your position within the organisation.
- Which person in hospitality have you most admired / inspired you?
Early in my career Chris Dalton at Crieff Hydro was a great inspiration as I started my hospitality journey, he took the time to explain what was needed to succeed and as I move through my career Laurie Nicol is someone, I learned a great deal from, the art of getting the deal done and having real courage in your convictions.
- How do you manage your stress levels?
Since last year to help manage my stress and general mental wellbeing I started to exercise more, eat better, go for cold water swims and generally take time out to be the best version of myself I can be.
- Instagram, Twitter or Facebook – and why?
Twitter for me, I like short, sharp content and if I want to look further into anything it’s generally easy to do so.
- If you had not gone into hospitality, where do you
think you would be now?
I would have loved to have been a firefighter, that was the dream before I fell into hospitality
- What did you do on your last days off?
I took my daughter shopping and what I mean by that is I stood outside every store in Silverburn while she went in shopping and then shouted me when it was time to pay.
- What do you do to relax, to support your wellbeing?
Since last year to help manage my general mental wellbeing and relax I started to exercise more, eat better, go for cold water swims and generally take time out to be the best version of myself I can be. I took the opportunity to seek counseling to help me understand myself better and how I can look after my own mental health better while being a better person and father to my daughter.
