Superlative collection - Head of Sales, PR & Comms

  • What was your favourite subject at school? It’s a close call between Art & English, I’ve always been quite creative and loved drawing/painting/reading/writing!
  • What was your first job? Started in retail at Original Shoe Co (old clothes shop that went bust in 2009), I was 16 and worked with an array of different young people from 18-25, we enjoyed socialising together when the shop shut at 6pm – I had a lot of fun as you can imagine ☺️
  • Which is your favourite restaurant / hotel? My favourite restaurant.. apart from any of our own, Big Counter and favourite hotel is Stobo Castle
  • How do you inspire your team? I try to lead by example, if they see me working hard, I hope it’s infectious! We have a “day of fun” each month in which we finish work early and enjoy some good food and drinks together. Mostly recently in Nov/Dec, we enjoyed an overnight and spa at Gleddoch Hotel and our Christmas night out was dinner at Kelvingrove Cafe and a gig at SWG3, lots of fun!
  • Which person in hospitality have you most admired / inspired you? Our owner and my manager Andy is a force, there’s always something new on the horizon, he has an amazing sales-brain, as well as operations. I joined the company 3 years ago when we had 5 venues and now we’ve just ended the year with 15 – never a dull moment!
  • How do you manage your stress levels? I try to designate some time each day to switch off, some days it’s a bit harder than others. A morning walk with my golden retriever and an evening bath is a must. When working in hospitality, it’s important to ensure we take time to check out and switch off to be as productive and creative as possible when we return, I’ve just enjoyed a few weeks off over Christmas and NY, I can’t wait to get back and seize this year!
  • Instagram, Twitter or Facebook – and why? Instagram is the one for me, the most visual app of all three. It’s important to be visible to as many people as possible, especially working in hospitality – everyone doom scrolls, if you can’t beat them – you must join them!
  • If you had not gone into hospitality, where do you think you would be now? I would probably be working in sales/events, not specifically hospitality – I love planning and orchestrating important events, the satisfaction of making everything perfect for someone on the best day of their life is unparalleled!
  • What did you do on your last days off? We visited Murrayshall House Hotel over Hogmanay, it’s a beautiful dog friendly hotel in Perth – it was perfect, I would definitely return and recommend to others.
  • What do you do to relax, to support your wellbeing? I really enjoy my daily morning walks as well as Pilates and Yoga, I try to go 3-4 classes a week. Re-set Studio in Tradeston is the best. I live Southside so I have three amazing parks around me, Queens Park, Pollok Park and Newlands Park – love spending time in all of them when the weather isn’t too horrendous! I love to travel with my partner, we try to get away a few times a year to experience different cultures & food & surroundings as much as I can.
