What was your favourite subject at school? English – I’ve always loved storytelling, creative writing, and getting lost in a good book. It taught me the power of communication, which I now use every day in hospitality.
What was your first job? I started as a store person at Tesco. It was all about stacking shelves, managing stock, and learning how important it is to work hard, stay organised, and be part of a team – values I still carry with me.
Which is your favourite restaurant/hotel? Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa – I know I’m biased, but it’s a genuinely special place. The location, the people, the pride in what we do – it’s more than just a hotel, it’s a community.
How do you inspire your team? By showing up with them, not above them. I lead from the front, try to stay approachable, and focus on building a culture where we work hard but have fun. Creating a team environment where people feel supported, valued, and empowered makes all the difference.
Which person in hospitality have you most admired/inspired you? Will Guidara. His approach to hospitality goes beyond service – it’s about creating unforgettable experiences through small, thoughtful details. His book Unreasonable Hospitality really challenged how I think about guest care and leadership.
How do you manage your stress levels? Like anyone in this industry, there are high-pressure moments. I try to keep perspective – we’re here to create joy, not to save lives. Stepping back, breathing, walking the dogs, or having a laugh with the team helps me reset. I also try not to carry stress home (though that’s still a work in progress!).
Instagram, Twitter or Facebook – and why? Instagram – it’s visual, engaging, and a great way to showcase everything we do at the hotel, from food to spa to our amazing team. It tells a story without needing too many words, and it helps us connect with a wider audience.
If you had not gone into hospitality, where do you think you would be now? Probably teaching. I’ve always enjoyed mentoring and helping people grow, and I think I’d have found my way into something people-focused where I could still make a difference.
What did you do on your last days off? Took the dogs out for some long walks (they rule the schedule!). I also indulged in a bit too much Netflix – the usual balance of rest and doing as little as possible!
What do you do to relax, to support your wellbeing? I’m at my best when I get time with Family. Switching off my phone, catching up with close friends, and just taking time to breathe all help keep me grounded. Being intentional about rest is something I’ve learned to prioritise – even in a job that never really sleeps.
